At this moment Austria is still my number one winter sports destination, but I must say South Tyrol is a serious runner up. Why? Have a look at my selection of ‘Happiness Creators’. These beauties are here to guarantee a wonderful winter time in the South Tyrol mountains.
4 wonderful Hotels to have a great Ski-break in South Tyrol
#1. Rosa Alpina Hotel & Spa – Relais & Chateaux. San Cassiano
This hotel is family-run and offers spacious, modern rooms and suites with wooden furniture. It’s located in San Cassiano, a picturesque mountain village within easy reach of Cortina D’Ampezzo’s ski resort. The staff is there to help arrange transport, ski passes, and babysitting. They also offer their own alpine guides and ski instructors. The chef at their Michelin star restaurant St. Hubertus loves to spoil you with heavenly dishes.
Tempting feature: The hotel has two private cabins high up in the mountains ( at 2.000m altitude ). One they reserve for guests who want to spend a day in the mountains and have a private place to stay at. The second one is a two story chalet to spend the night in (limited electricity, only cold water) where they bring up the food and deliver breakfast the next morning. Maximum privacy guaranteed.
#2. Hotel Kolfuschgerhof. Colfosco di Corvara
The charm of the Dolomites is all around you at the hotel Kofluschgerhof. You can enjoy the magnificent scenery from the balcony of your room, as well as from their panoramic terrace. I love the interior of the rooms. Done with great taste. Very cosy and romantic.
Cool feature: Ski in – Ski out! You have access to 1.220 kilometres of downhill slopes in the world-famous Dolomiti Superski area. This ‘snow-white’ dream starts 200 meters from the hotel entrance – directly facing the Sella Ronda ski carousel. You can ski to the lift straight away. And at the end of the day the private ‘Col Pradat’ lodge will provide you with limitless after-skiing fun!
Alpina Dolomites Gardena Health Lodge & Spa. Alpe di Siusi
This award winning 5 star hotel is spot on in every way. Obviously they offer ski in – ski out. Location, cool design, spa & wellness features it’s all there and top notch, but the most spectacular feature of all is definitely the breathtaking view. Priceless!
Healthy feature: The Alpina Dolomites Lodge is located on the Alpe di Siusi, one of Europe’s most beautiful and largest high-altitude plateau which is exactly why it meets very severe quality requirements: respect for ecology and harmonious integration into the surrounding environment. Since the air on the plateau is so pure and pristine, you’ll feel the healthy benefits right away.
Tirler Dolomites Living Hotel. Alpe di Siusi
Situated on the mountain this beautiful one also offers the great experience of ski in-ski out, but that’s not all. It has been certificated as the first allergy friendly hotel in Italy! They take care of all intolerances and food allergies. This already starts in the 28 rooms and suites, built biologically with materials suitable for allergy sufferers, such as pinewood or clay. For example, instead of traditional radiators the rooms are furnished with heated clay walls.
Legendary feature: The Luis Trenker spirit is every around. This legendary film producer, artist and alpinist is well known and well respected in South Tyrol. Trenker chose the Tirler Alm area to be the central point in his award winning film ‘The Prodigal Son’. Today you can sense Trenker’s spirit everywhere at the Tirler hotel. The staff wears items of the succesfull fashion label ‘Luis Trenker’. There is this cosy Luis Trenker Stube and a number of suites are dedicated to the mountain pioneer, equipped with highly decorative and historical accessories and attractive Luis Trenker images everywhere. Not kitsch but authentic documentation.
What do you think? Is it going to be South Tyrol this winter? Let me know!
