Our ride from hotspot Sölden to the chic spa resort of Bad Hofgastein was beautiful. The scenery changed gradually from the high peaks of Tyrol to the predominantly rolling Salzburgerland landscape. This was going to be another 48 hours in a very different setting and vibe, but with one consistent feature in both resorts: fresh snow! The village of Bad Hofgastein is among the upscale villages of the Gastein Valley and has a lot to offer. Let me show you the 7 things that will turn a big smile on your face.
#1. Enjoy the diverse ski area & make sure to do the powder
The ski area is very diverse and suitable for all levels. Because the various areas are connected, you can also go for the long runs of up to 8 km. In this large area, where already several World Cup snowboard competitions were held, there are also some interesting ski trails to enjoy the powder. The biggest fun park is the Boarder’s Paradise on the Grossarl side of the slopes.
#2. Take the Schlossalm Funicular up
Make sure to take the Funicular up. Not the most high-tech, but definitely the most nostalgic way up and a beautiful view is guaranteed!
#3. Have lunch and a fine glass of wine at Weitmoser Almvinothek
This mountain restaurant is located next to the Hochalm gondola. Really good dishes, in a traditional atmosphere, but what attracted me the most is their Almvinothek. Go to the right when you enter the Schlossalm, in the corner you’ll find this small, cozy wine area. Here you can grab a bite and choose up to 35 different wines. And the good thing is, you can all order them per glass.
#4. Après-ski with a stunning view
Here in Bad Hofgastein après-ski can be experienced in different ways. Of course the well-known Austrian après-ski. Aeroplanstadl is a very good example to enjoy it the traditional way. It was our favorite last stop on the slopes at the end of the day. Very good vibe and a stunning view over the village even from the inside of the bar. Make sure to go a bit easy on the drinks, you still have to do the descent down and it’s quite a challenging one…
#5. Enjoy the best coffee in the ski resort of Bad Hofgastein
At the end of an intense day on the slopes on your way down, it’s really worth to stop for the best cup of coffee in the ski resort. In the hotel bar and outside, on the tempting terrace of DAS.GOLDBERG, is where you can enjoy it. You can reach it easily because this hotel is situated almost at the end of the slope. Simply kick off your ski’s and go for it! Imagine yourself sitting in a comfy deck chair, while your nose tickles from this great smell. The coffee beans are roasted by proud owner Georg Seer himself and you can choose 2 blends; ‘Mein Goldener’ or ‘Mein Kräftiger’. Heaven for all you coffee lovers out there! I’ve tried them both and I have a slight preference for ‘Mein Goldener’.
#6. Relax at thé home of hot springs
If you prefer to relax body and mind after an intense day on the slopes, this is the place to do so. The region of Bad Gastein is traditionally known for its several hot springs and people therefore love to visit this home of health and spa resort.
#7. Get carried away by the grandeur of the Belle Epoque
The characteristic appearance of Bad Gastein with its magnificent buildings from the “Belle Epoque” blends harmoniously with the natural environment. The thermal baths of the hotels, the world famous radon springs – each with its own character. It’s a unique place. The best way to experience the vibe is by walking through it. I’m sure you will like it a lot.
