Reminiscing the elegant style of the 40’s and 50’s
I don’t know about you, but I just love the glamorous style of the 40’s and 50’s. The fabrics and ‘schnitt’, so very elegant and sophisticated. As a child I loved to watch the iconic Hollywood dance films starring Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly over and over again. The way they danced, so perfectly synchronized and smooth, it looked so easy. Ginger moving around in beautiful dresses and Fred or Gene ( liked them both, but slight preference for Gene!) in perfectly tailored suits. I couldn’t get enough of it and loved to get carried away into this sugar sweet, but oh so perfect, elegant world.
Mad Men turned me into a Mad Woman
Years after, in 2007 the fabulous TV series Mad Men airs for the first time and it happens again. I find myself sitting in front of the tube for hours. Episode after episode, simply couldn’t stop watching the lives of Betty, Joan and Megan (and of course the handsome Don Draper) in their beautifully designed outfits. I instantly became a huge fan. Gave me the same glorious feeling when watching Ginger and Fred/Gene.
Perfect combination of retrochic and Dirndl Trachten
Recently I discovered this remarkable Austrian fashion designer Lena Hoschek. Her designs remind me so much of my happy moments in front of the tv. She combines this retrochic style with traditional Trachten. It couldn’t be more perfect. The garments are really stunning. I don’t own one yet, but would definitely love to wear a piece and feel like Ginger, Betty or Joan myself.
Want to know what my personal favorites are? Check below the super feminine ribbon skirt (bänderrock ) with the red and pink colored fabric and the black top. And have a look at the model on the catwalk wearing the pinkish tailored blouse with puffed sleeves, colored tie, baggy shorts to the knee, suspenders and the beret….mind blowing and so very sexy! Last but definitely not least the black satin pencil skirt. Again combined with suspenders, a tailored blouse and tie. Gorgeous.
Lena Hoschek. Fashion designer from Graz
Before Lena became the successful fashion designer she is today, she studied fashion design at the Fashion Institute Vienna Hetzendorf. After an 8-month internship at Vivienne Westwood in 2003/2004, she started her own studio in Graz in 2005. In the years after additional stores were opened in Vienna and Berlin and today you can also buy her designs in Italy and Switzerland. She presents two collections a year. These contain dresses, skirts, blouses, pants and pajamas. Besides that she also designs a collection of shoes, swimwear, eyewear and accessories. And if you want to complete it all, you can sprinkle yourself with ‘Loverose’, Hoscheks’ first fragrance.

What makes a piece a typical Hoschek one?
It is the combination of luxurious, quality materials, craftsmanship processing techniques and much attention to detail. It makes each piece of clothing timeless. Have a look at the autumn/winter collection 2014 runway show at Berlin Fashion Week and get enchanted by these stunning garments.
Stay in Lena’s suite at the Altstadt Hotel Vienna
In 2012 Lena was asked to design a suite at the Altstadt Hotel in Vienna. She did a marvelous job and gave the suite her typical retrochic trademark. Again it’s all about the fabrics and details that show how she persues perfection and quality. The suite has been given a feminine, sensual touch with floral prints, dainty fauteuils, beautiful draperies and luxurious chandeliers. Staying in this suite is definitely on my bucket list. My plan for the near future: Go to Vienna, buy a gorgeous piece at her Salon, wear it to Vienna’s finest two star Michelin restaurant Steirereck and then have a lovely night at Lena’s suite at the Altstadt Hotel. Let me show you some pictures to get you all excited about this trip.

Said YES! And live happily ever after
Getting married is such a joyful event to look forward to. Last week Lena Hoschek got married to Mario Frajuk. On her website, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest pages, she shares the preparations for this big day. Very inspiring. Make sure to have a look if you’re planning to get married!
