Update on this Seasons’ Ski Fashion Trends
Snow is falling in Austria and the slopes are already covered with a nice layer of snow. The perfect moment to start looking for a new ski outfit. Each year, I stop by at SportNStyles in Haarlem ( The Netherlands ) to get an extensive update on this seasons’ Ski Fashion Trends. Marcel Janssen is the owner of this store with a wide range of cool brands. For many years he runs the store with much dedication, enthusiasm and great sense of style. The reason why I always go to Marcel’s store is because of the great personal service and nice staff. You can also order online, convenient if you don’t have time to go into town.
The 5 Musthaves to Hit the Slopes in Style
Last week I went to visit the store and Marcel showed me all the new stuff. Goldbergh, Peak Performance, Lutha, Superdry, K-WAY, Parajumpers and Canada Goose are just a few of the brands in the collection. Below you find the 5 Musthaves to hit the slopes in style this season. It’s all about tight skipants, bright colors, down jackets, pom-pom beanies, leather gloves and functional but fashionable wear.
#1. Skinny Skipants ( Rennhosen )
Marcel showed me this Dutch fashion brand called Goldbergh, a luxury sportswear collection for the active, yet fashionable woman. This high end brand was launched in 2011 by 2 Dutch ladies who have years of experience in the world of winter sports clothing and fashion design. I had spotted it already online and in magazines, but never tried something on. SportNStyles has a wide collection of this brand in store and my eye immediately fell on this skinny fit Rennhosen. I’ve spotted these kind of pants on the slopes in Austria for a couple of years now, very feminine. But until now I’ve never been able to find the perfect one for me. These Goldbergh pants fit like a glove and make you even look one size slimmer. The pants ensure that your buttocks are lifted and flatten your belly. On top of that they are available in various lengths. They come in various styles and colors, but my personal favorite is the black one with the quilted camaches at the bottom. Very classy and sexy style.
Funfact: Queen Maxima is a big fan of the Goldbergh skipants and the brand is also featured in the new feel good movie ‘Gooische Vrouwen 2’.
#2. Bright Color Jacket
The bright color trend is still alive. Saw a lot of color blocking last year, but again this seasons’ collections show beautiful bright colors like cobalt blue, orange, pink/purple, yellow and red. Peak Performance has an extensive collection. The materials vary from down (feather) filling to the more functional/technical ones. The functional ones give you that extra slim silhouette. Although these jackets keep your body perfectly warm, you can always choose to wear an extra thermo layer beneath it.

#3. Pom-pom Beanie
Of course you should always wear a ski helmet on the slopes, but when you’re done skiing and go for a Schnapps in apresski, make sure to wear a beanie. My favorite luxury brand for this item is definitely Frauenschuh from Austria, Kitzbühel. The lovely Ayda Field (Robbie Williams wife ) looked great wearing hers at Closing Weekend in Ischgl this May.
#4. Leather Gloves
Leather gloves or mittens it is. Go for that great feeling of leather. Nice detail: This pair from Goldbergh is quilted stitched. THE perfect match with the black quilted camaches Rennhosen and a bright colored jacket.
#5. Geheimtipp: Latschenkiefer Cream
Make sure to carry a tin of Latschenkiefer Cream in your pocket for a shiny blush on your cheekbones. Not many people know about this typical Austrian cream. This Geheimtipp was revealed to me years ago by my ski-instructor. He told me that every instructor carried a little round tin Latschenkiefer-crème in the pocket. Not only to get that ski-brown tan faster, but also to protect your face against cold temperatures.
The part that I was most interested in – of course – was the fact that it gives you that perfect ski-holiday brown tan, that everybody wants to have before returning back home. Latschenkiefer Cream is a natural cream with medicinal ingredients that are extracted from the European pines in the Alps. It is ideal for natural skin care. It gives you a balanced, smooth renewed and shinny skin. I’ve been using it for quite some time now and it’s true. This product gives you – if properly used – the perfect ski-tan on your face.
There are 2 brands Arlberger Latschenkiefer-crème ( Bano, St.Anton, Tirol ) and Tiroler Hochgebirgs Latschenkiefersalbe ( Fa.Hofmann Kossen, Tirol ). I’ve tried them both and I have a slight preference for the Arlberger version. It is softer and easier to rub in. But both give the same result and are available online.
(Warning: Be careful and use properly. Don’t use Latschenkiefer-crème as a sun protection cream. It has no sunscreen in it. Always put on a sun protection cream first, before using the Latschenkiefer-crème. And please do not use the cream on children, because of their delicate skin!)
