There is always much to derive from the check-in experience in a hotel. My expectations were high this time. I had already heard a lot about Das Central and was wondering how it would be to spend 2 nights in this top notch hotel, the only 5 star house in Sölden. When I got there and walked up to the check-in counter I felt it right away. Warm, friendly and with a lovely smile. I don’t know about you but I am very receptive to this kind of approach; the perfect combination of professional hospitality and Tyrolean Gemütlichkeit.
Feeling very well at the Wolfühlsuite Chalet Ötztal
One of the staff members accompanied me to my suite ( Wolfühlsuite Chalet Ötztal ), to show all the amenities available. Recently the rooms and suites were renovated and re-decorated, all in a very contemporary but still traditional Alpine style. Tasteful, I must say. Wooden floors, subtle colors, a private sauna, a cosy bed with special mattresses made up with the finest linen. To complete it all there was a SuitePad at my disposal, a ‘digital concierge’ to book Spa treatments, make table reservations, or order items at the Central -Shop, online. I was more than pleasantly surprised by the way the Das Central management and team put themselves into the shoes of their guests. My suite made me feel like staying over at my best friend’s house; at ease and very comfy.
Get to know the hotel by talking to the guests
Once I had unpacked my suitcase, I went down to have a closer look around. Curious to check out the restaurant, Stube and hotel bar. There was still enough time before dinner was served, so I decided to have a drink first. I accidentally ran into a group of Dutch hotel guests. They asked me to join them for drinks and dinner. It turned out they had been guests at Das Central for over 25 years. Cool! We had some nice chats about the hotel and I asked them why they always come back to this lovely house. The main reason: because it is like staying at your best friend’s house. Sounds familiar!
An unforgettable night, followed by a good night sleep
After a fab evening with lovely fondue in the wine cellar, good companionship and quite some glasses of PINO 3000 and Vogelbeere Schnaps, I finally went up to my suite. The late-evening service already had been in my room to turn on the lights, close the curtains and turn down the bed. Of course there was a chocolate on the pillow They even brought up room service – a nice platter with bread, cheese and ham – for my husband’s late night arrival. Service to the max!
Talking about passion for guests and wine
The next day we couldn’t wait to hit the slopes of Sölden and visit the famous ice Q restaurant, the one that is featured in the latest James Bond movie SPECTRE. The ice Q and the hotel belong together. Mrs. Angelika Falkner is the proud owner of both and the creator of the exclusive PINO 3000 wine. I had the opportunity to have a nice chat with Mrs. Falkner, a very inspiring lady, who has this profound passion for pampering her guests to the utmost. Creating a completely new wine concept on top of it all, is quite an achievement I think and she did it! The story that goes with this wine is a cool one. Can’t wait to tell you all about it in my next post about the ice Q.
Breakfast and wellness before we say goodbye….
After an intensive day on the slopes we went to bed early. Unfortunately, the next morning our delightful stay at Das Central would come to an end. But we could still look forward to a delicious breakfast and some quality time in our private sauna in the suite. The breakfast at Das Central is very extensive, but if you are in for something else, they serve extra breakfast dishes. There is a special breakfast menu with, for example, creamy scrambled eggs with truffle, or whole grain pancakes with apricots and cinnamon sugar, yum!
All good things come to an end
It’s obvious that we had a wonderful stay at this amazing house. To be surrounded by all the luxury is absolutely fantastic, but what we will remember most is the pleasant atmosphere and this outstanding, Tyrolean hospitality that’s deeply rooted here. You can sense that the staff is determined to make you feel at home at Das Central. Pampering guests is what they do from the heart and I enjoyed every minute of it!
