Week 11. Ski and party in the snow
Serfaus is definitely on our list of all time favorite Austrian villages. Every year we are looking forward to go on our ‘Week 11′ ski-break. In this short period in March the adults take over the village; groups of friends stay here a couple of days to ski and party. Why is Serfaus the perfect village for us? Because it’s a great ski area with high-speed elevators and over 212 km of slopes. Even in high season you don’t have to stand in line at the elevators, a big advantage if you ask me. Serfaus has more than 2000 hours of sunshine throughout the year. That’s what makes this village THE all season holiday destination. And of course it’s great to go there in March; sun – snow and party, what more is there to be desired!
Nice places to stay in this period are: Haus Heureka, Hotel Noldis, both situated in the centre of the village. But there is also a very special one. Cervosa Alm, close to the slopes near the ‘Komperdell Mittelstation’. Staying there guarantees you to be the first tracker in the morning on the immaculate slopes!
Haus Heureka. Appartments run by the very charming couple Frau Barbara und Herr dr. Franz Patscheider.
Hotel Noldis. 4 Star. Rooms and suits. Run by family Thurner und das Noldis team.
Cervosa Alm. Appartements at 2.000 meters. Belongs to the 5 star Hotel Cervosa in the village. Run by Familie Hugo und Gertrude Westreicher.
Cervosa Alm. guaranteed first tracker on the immaculate slopes in the morning!
Schischule Serfaus and Murmli
Apart from this short period in March, Serfaus is perfect for a ski holiday with children. Schischule Serfaus really focuses on giving them the best time of their lives in the snow. The’ve built a kids village at the Mittelstation on the mountain, where kids go to ski for the first time and meet up with Murmli, Serfaus’ mascot. You can even take your little ones up there to play in the snow and have a power nap at noon; Kindergarden at high altitude combined with fresh mountain air!
Summer mountain paradise for kids
In summer this place also has a lot to offer. As I already mentioned kids are very welcome in the village and the facilities and outdoor activities are tailored especially for them. There are many family hotels in various price categories. And on top of the mountain there is a true outdoor Adventure World for kids, with a lot of fun and cool things to do. As a guest staying in one of Serfaus’ accommodations you get the Super.Summer.Card for free. This includes:
The use of all 7 mountain railways
Adventure world Serfaus (Murmliwasser, Murmlitrail etc.)
Summer fun park Fiss (Giant slide, “sled evening”, kneippism etc.)
Shuttle service between the villages: Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis
Children animation: 6 days a week in 2 children clubs (Murmli & Mini-Maxi Club)
“Brezina´s Abenteuerberge”: “Sturzflug”, “Hexenhütte”, “Baumhaus”
Guided mountain hikes: 6 hikes a week in Serfaus, Fiss and Ladis
Hotel Löwe & Bär, all set for children
For families with small children, we recommend Löwe & Bär. This hotel is all set for children, but also makes sure the parents are well taken care of. Kids buffets, baby phone and babysitter service, in and outdoor playgrounds, crafts and creativity areas, soft play areas, rafting for the older ones and various swimming pools. And of course this all comes with superb service and quality. The well trained staff takes good care of you and your loved ones!
Fashion, wine and Italian ice-cream
The village also has a large variety of shops. Of course there are a number of sports shops, but the fashionatas among us can indulge. There are two shops that sell the best brands like Girbaud, Parajumpers, Hogan, Tod’s, Boss and Prada. Both located in the centre of the village, Schneeweiss and Patscheider Style Damenboutique
There is also a branch of the famous deli Plangger. In one of my earlier posts about Ischgl I already mentioned this fine deli. It is known for its delicious food, but also serves the finest wines by the glass, which you can simply enjoy standing outside on the street.
For Italian ice cream you should really go to Praemontan. This Italian restaurant serves lovely dishes for lunch and dinner, but also has a corner with great Italian ice-cream in summer. The location of this restaurant is perfect. Their terrace is overloaded with sunshine during the day and is very close tot the Komperdell Bergbahnen.
Let’s go underground
Serfaus is almost car-free. Upon entering the village, the concierge welcomes you and asks you where you will be staying. Once you’ve parked your car at your accommodation, you’re supposed to leave it there for the rest of your stay. Serfaus is the only village that has an underground like this one. With a capacity of 6.400 beds it is the largest tourist village in the Oberes Gericht. Together with Ischgl, Sölden and St. Anton am Arlberg, Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is now among the best known tourism regions in Tyrol. Due to the increasing amount of traffic in the village, the village council approved to built the underground railway. It was built in 1985 and runs through the entire village. Especially in the winter, the underground is very useful when your heading to the Komperdell Bahn with all your gear and stuff you need for skiing.
We hope you will have a great time in Serfaus. Servus!
