Well my friends….the Almrauschparty at Rosi’s wonderful Sonnbergstuben in Kitzbühel, that was quite a blast! I’m still reminiscing about this highlight Trachten event in the Kitzbühler Alps. And my feet are still sore from dancing, because that’s what the 800 fancy dressed guests did, dance until the crack of dawn! Despite being a fairly insider event – mainly German and Austrian guests (we were the only Dutch ones) – it’s definitely a must-go. Especially if you’re a die-hard Oktoberfest fan, this event is indisputably your prelude to the largest Volksfest in the world. Once inside, you instantly get caught by the flow and mood of Austrian tradition, Gemütlichkeit, Tracht and glamour. Let me tell you the 5 reasons why you should go there to have an unforgettable night out!
#1. The best prelude to the biggest Volksfest in the world: Oktoberfest München
This party is by far the best way to start your Oktoberfest season. Of course there a many other great Fests to go to, even long before the Almrausch takes place. But this one got me definitely into that specific Wiesn vibe and mood! Great live bands playing all those well known songs and everybody sings along. Standing on the tables, laughing and singing together…all in very good atmosphere, need I say more?
#2. Party among the best dressed party squad in stunning Tracht
You all know that I love to wear Dirndls. Wish I could do that more often. In that perspective this party was a real bonus for me. Here, at this party, you get to see the latest collections in Tracht. It’s like partying on a catwalk. So many beautiful ones, on point, in stunning colors and made from the finest fabrics. For a couple of years now AlpenHerz Trachtenmanufaktur is thé Dirndl purveyor at the Almrauschparty. Lucky me I got to wear one of their wonderful designs. Sandra Abt and Verena Krist did a wonderful job picking the perfect one for me. I loved wearing the AnnabelI in stunning green with the ornate collar. Very nice to see the ladies all dressed up at their best…
#3. Taste Fridl’s heavenly Austrian dishes
In January I had already visited the Sonnbergstuben for the first time. I definitely wanted to go there, because chef Fridel’s kitchen is well known even far beyond Kitzbühel. Back then we had lunch and it was really delightful. Fridel’s signature dish, the Bauern Ente…finger licking good. You can imagine that expectations were high this time. For the Almrauschparty Fridel had to prepare some extraordinary amounts of food. Let me give you the stats to feed all those hungry party squad mouths: 1.500 dumplings, 100 kilos of chanterelles, 100 kilos of beef stew and 100 kilos of roast pork are processed. The highlight is the 300 kilo ox on Grill. Approximately 400 Flammkuchen and 450 currywursts are eaten that night. Thumbs up for this welcoming host and chef, he didn’t let me down!
#4. Meet the famous, lovely and singing host Rosi
Rosi is thé leading lady of the Almrauschparty and a wonderful personality. Her main goal is to make sure everybody feels at home at her Sonnbergstuben. Besides managing the Stuben together with her son Fridel in a magnificent way, she has her own range of fine delicacies ( like chocolate and marmelade ) and she also sings traditional Austrian songs. Of course she sang at the Almrausch, that was definitely one of the highlights of the evening. She is one of a kind and actually likes it a lot to meet and greet with her guests. Leidenschaft pur, that’s Rosi!
#5. Party like the locals do
If you like to party with the locals, this is definitely your place to be! We were the only Dutch guests and I really enjoyed this glamorous Kitz event. I can’t describe exactly what it was, but there was this energetic, sparkling atmosphere that instantly made me feel very welcome!
Make sure to stay in Kitzbühel for the whole weekend. The next day is Jahrmarkt, a traditional Trachten festival in the beautiful village of Kitzbühel, really worth visiting!
Thank you very much Rosi, Fridel, the Sonnbergstuben team and Christian Abermann for having us ‘Die Holländer’ at your fab party. We hope to be back one day and enjoy it all once more!
