Usual Suspects still going Strong
The ski season is in full swing, time for the Après-Ski hits update! I can be very brief about it. When it comes to the traditional Schlager songs the ‘usual suspects’ are still going strong. Just as last year and the year before that and before that….Yeah! That’s quite comforting, at least for those of you who have been to Austria before and are familiar with the songs in the German language.
Dem Land Tirol die Treue
For all you ‘newcomers’, below you find the list with the 10 biggest Après-Ski hits. Of course you can argue about it, but this is my personal list based on more than 15 years of partying in Austrian bars. My advice to you. Learn them by heart, it will make your Après-Ski experience an even greater one. My personal favorite – and number 1 on the list – is ‘Dem Land Tirol die Treue’ by Die Grubertaler. It’s a traditional march song about Tyrol, you won’t hear it everywhere in Austria.
If you’ve read my earlier blog about Ludwigs’ top 5 apresski party places, you know that this is one of the things I like the most. I guess being born and brought up in the south of The Netherlands – close to the German border – has played a big part in me having this guilty pleasure. As a child I’ve always watched German television programs and the typical German Schlager music was played at every family party. Entering an Après-Ski bar today and hearing the familiar songs always makes me smile instantly. I simply love the whole experience of dancing, singing and drinking at high altitude in the Austrian mountains. And of course I add some Schnapps, Grüner Veltliner and Fliegender Hirsch to it, makes me see the fun of it even more!
#1 Dem Land Tirol die Treue / Die Grubertaler
My personal favorite!
#2 Atemlos / Helene Fischer
Nice song, sang by the beautiful Helene. Also Number 1 song at Oktoberfest 2014, München.
#3 Der Alte Dessauer / Mathias Achatz, Oktoberfest 2013
Over 300 year old Polka. No lyrics
#4 Hey! Wir woll’n die Eisbären sehen / Jürgen Drews
Just remind the title, no one ever sings the rest of the lyrics.
#5 Joanna ( du geile Sau ) / Peter Wackel
Sing it, it will set you free!
#6 So ein Schöner Tag ( Fliegerlied ) / Tim Toupet
For the diehards: there is also a special dance to this song.
#7 Wahnsinn (Hölle Hölle Hölle) / Wolfgang Petry
Epic when everyone sings the three words: Hölle, Hölle, Hölle!
#8 Das Rote Pferd / Markus Becker
This is about a horse with a tail. No rocket science lyrics. Drink a few Schnapps and you will like it a lot.
#9 Ein Stern der deinen Namen trägt / DJ ötzi & André Rieu ( Live Vrijthof, Maastricht )
DJ ötzi together with André Rieu Orchestra on the Vrijfhof square in Maastricht, The Netherlands. A bit of a love song. Perfect when it gets later and later…
#10 Nur noch Schuhe an / Mickie Krause
Lat but not least, this song. It’s about shoes, the only thing she’s wearing
Researching this post has given me so much pleasure. You should have seen me laughing out loud and singing even louder watching all the video’s on YouTube. I’ve been thinking about sharing it with you for so long. Now is the time, hope you will laugh and sing as much as I did preparing it!
